Day 2, Saturday 09/15/07

We finally arrived last night, we meet 6 other people that was on the same flight from London to Nairobi. Calvin and Carol from Ireland, Caitlin from Canada and Aiden from London, he is staying for 6 months. The last girl was not introduced. We woke up after an unrestful sleep to a delicious breakfast cooked by Joyce (our host family). She cooked eggs with toast and made mkate buffalo. Everything was great. We have running water and electricity More then we hoped for. James cam at 08:00 to pick us up for orientation. We drove about 20 minutes to go to the guest house in Karen. There were already served other younger people there. I felt a bit out of place. Everyone was talking to each other like they knew one another. I was also small talking to several people around me. There was a total of 26 people. We had a brief orientation of introducing ourselfs and a little bit of safaris. I met Kate from New Zealand, Deborah from Australia, Kathy from Chicago, 2 girls from Washington and Seattle, a turkish girl and Brooke (she travelled 4 days in Berlin before arriving in Nairobi). The names and where they are from might be all mixed up. Maybe tomorrow i will be better remembering. We went in 4 Vans into Nairobi. Went to the "Serena House" where the VICDA Office is located. Basically it was a small room office in a shopping complex. We went to Barclays Bank first but we had problems withdrawing money. Then heading to the supermarket. We spend about $50 for 2 large container of water, heat lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, listerine and cigarettes. I thought that was pretty expensive. After about 2 hours we headed back to the office. Right next door is a very local Kenyan Cafe. We had a delicious lunch with chicken, rice and cabbage. After lunch break we went to a cyber Cafe. Filled out an entry on GVN and send my sister an email that i arrived safely. Internet was extremely slow. After that we all headed to "Nairobi Safari Walk" There were cheetas and leopards. Something we missed last december. We hope this time we will spot them in the wild. That was pretty much the end of this group activity. James drove us back to our host familiy. Joyce cooked us a delicious dinner. We had soup, rice with sweet potatoe, cabbage, pasta and beef stew. I said i was not eating beef and then at my first day i already had chicken and beef. I tried to speek to Joyce Swahili, but was not really successful. I will just have to try harder.
